CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Students, Faculty and Staff

Dear AVÀÇ students, faculty and staff,

The  this morning that it will require immunization against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, from students, faculty and staff who will be on a CSU campus beginning with the Fall 2021 semester.

AVÀÇ will align with this requirement, and anyone who plans to be at the Hayward, Concord or Oakland Center campuses must be vaccinated or have a valid exemption. The CSU’s COVID-19 vaccination policy will allow students and employees to seek medical and religious exemptions. To allow time to become fully vaccinated or to request an exemption, the effective date of this requirement at AVÀÇ will be September 15, 2021.

Based on feedback and surveys, AVÀÇ believes that 80 percent or more of our students, faculty and staff are already fully vaccinated. Should you need a vaccination, you can . Vaccinations are free, and available to everyone 12 and older, regardless of immigration status.

All of us are excited to see you back on our campuses this fall, and we want everyone to be safe and healthy. Since the pandemic began last year, the university has had no community transmission of COVID-19 at any of our campuses. As well, Alameda and Contra Costa counties, along with others in the greater Bay Area, have higher vaccination rates and lower infection rates compared to other parts of the state and country.

Following this morning’s system-wide announcement, there are many details for our university to work out in terms of implementation and confirmation of vaccination status. However, with approximately 50 percent of our course sections this fall offered via remote format, students have options to help them continue along their path to graduation.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as the pandemic and related policies and regulations continue to evolve. I look forward to updating you as plans emerge and we can provide more information.

Sincerely,

Cathy Sandeen
President
