AVÀÇ’s Veteran Office, located on the Hayward campus in the Library (LI) Annex, is dedicated to providing services to veterans interested in pursuing educational goals and applying for benefits.
Veterans’ Educational Benefits
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Education Service provides information on obtaining V.A. benefits. In most cases, the first step is to complete the V.A. application form 22-1990 and submit it to the appropriate V.A. regional office.
The following educational benefits are available to veterans and dependents:
Process to Use GI Bill® Benefits at CSU East Bay
Fill out the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) GI Bill® application form on the DVA website. To submit your application online, click .
Once you submit your GI Bill® application, please contact Veteran Student Services via email at veterans@csueastbay.edu for GI Bill® benefits processing. Elgibile students can receive a deferment of the enrollment fee.
Documents required for GI Bill® Certification:
- Certificate of Elgibility - This is the letter from Veteran Affairs that details they type of benefit you have, your percentage of elgibility, and the amount of educational benefits you have remaining.
- DD-214 (member Copy 4)
- General Education academic plan (due by the end of your first term)
- Major Department educational plan (due by the end of your first term)
- Minor educational plan (if applicable)
- All students seeking GI Bill® education benefits for study at AVÀÇ must certify enrollment in your MyCSUEB account each term.
- Veteran Readiness & Employment students must have their counselor submit the VA 28-1905 form each semester.
Note: Approval for benefits under the Cal Vet Fee Waiver program shall be granted on an Academic Year (AY) basis. There shall be no partial year grants of benefits. Applicants must re-apply each year to maintain entitlement. Approvals may be granted only for the current Academic Year, or the immediate upcoming Academic Year. The CalVet College Fee Waiver is applicable to Fall and Spring semesters and does not apply to Extension/Self-Support enrollment.
