History of the Department of Public Health (previously Health Sciences)

1975

Health Sciences offered as an Interdisciplinary Option.

1976

Health Sciences offered as a major.

1992

Department of Health Sciences created.

1996

The Department of Health Sciences merged with the Department of Nursing.

2012-2013

Health Sciences Program begins hiring additional tenure track faculty.

2017-2018

Health Sciences Program proposes separation from Nursing and the re-creation of the Department of Health Sciences in Fall 2018. Health Sciences has ten tenure-track faculty, over fifteen lecturers, and more than 1400 students.

2018-2019

The Department of Health Sciences is formed as AVÀÇ, East Bay transitions to a semester system. Health Sciences offers a Health Sciences, B.S with concentrations in Public Health and Health Policy.

2020-2021

The Department of Health Sciences changes its name to the Department of Public Health
