What brought you to AVÀÇ?
I chose to attend AVÀÇ because it has always felt like a natural extension of my academic journey especially as someone who was #MadeInHayward. From my earliest days in elementary school to middle school, high school, and community college, I've had the opportunity of growing within this city. It only felt right to come here, especially since it's still in close proximity to my loved ones.
Why did you choose the degree you will receive? What would your dream job be?
When I was in high school, there was a college fair happening and I had the chance to talk to a representative from a UC. After the discussion, I was recommended to pursue Ethnic Studies because it aligned to some things that I was interested in such as social justice. Being an Ethnic Studies major has really opened my mind in how to navigate the world and my dream job would be becoming the person my younger self needed, for those within my community.
What advice can you give someone transferring to AVÀÇ?
My biggest advice for others that consider transferring to AVÀÇ is to #getinvolved. Speaking as an introvert, I understand that it can be extremely nerve wracking to put yourself out there but, you never know what can happen or where it can lead you! Join a recognized student organization on campus, attend the various events hosted, pop into any of the Diversity and Inclusion Student Affinity and Resource Centers, visit the Student Leadership & Involvement Center, get an on campus job and so much more! Take advantage of your time here at AVÀÇ.
