Recognition for New/Inactive Student Organizations
Below are the steps to guide you through the process for starting a new (or reactivating an inactive) student organization. Only currently enrolled students of AVÀÇ may start student organizations. Organizations wishing to be recognized for the first time or who have been inactive on campus for more than one year must follow this process to gain recognition.
Student organizations that have not been officially recognized by SLIC may not sponsor any programs, host events/fundraisers, or seek funding until gaining official recognition. SLIC will support student organizations that are interested in becoming officially recognized with space reservations for tabling and general informational/recruitment meetings.
If you can’t find something you are looking for then here is where you start! We recommend you check out our Eligible Adopt-An-Org List on the Active Student Organizations page before you create a brand new organization. We may already have an org that you are interested in that you can reactivate!
Completing this process will ensure that the student organization will have all rights and privileges for RSOs. If you have questions or concerns, contact studentorgs@csueastbay.edu.
As a new student organization, you will have thirty (30) days upon submission of the Registration Form to complete this process. If you have any questions, please contact us at studentorgs@csueastbay.edu.
To create or reactivate a new organization, complete the following steps in this order:
STEP 1 -
Identify at least five enrolled students who are interested in being officers of the organization. Identify two of the five students to serve in the roles of President and Treasurer.
STEP 2 -
Identify a CSUEB faculty/staff/auxiliary member who is a state employee hired on a part or full-time basis to serve as an advisor to the organization.
STEP 3 -
Log into BaySync and submit the [RSO] Create a New Student Organization - Intent to Organize form. This form collects information about the prospective organization and notifies SLIC of this new interest.
STEP 4 -
After submitting the [RSO] Create a New Student Organization - Intent to Organize form, you must schedule a meeting with SLIC RSO Staff to review the prospective new org's mission, purpose, goals, functionality, and to review applicable training content and the new org formation process.
Email studentorgs@csueastbay.edu to inquire about scheduling a meeting with SLIC RSO Staff.
STEP 5 -
Create a constitution that will be the organization's governing document. You can use the to help you and your team start building your new org's constitution/bylaws. The constitution must adhere to all guidelines outlined in CSU Executive Order 1068. This includes but is not limited to:

- This organization shall comply with Title 5, Section 41301, Standards for Student Conduct.
STEP 6 -
After the constitution has been approved, the President and Treasurer will be required to complete RSO Officer Training. Officers must also attend the Fall Leadership Conference and/or Spring Leadership Symposium annually as part of Officer Training.
In addition the RSO On-Campus Advisor will also need to complete the RSO On-Campus Advisor Form. Note: The RSO On-Campus Advisors will also be required to complete Clery and additional training as needed.
